Song of the day: "Son of a Gun" by The Vaselines

Kurt Cobain frequently cited this Scottish duo as an influence and Nirvana covered their song "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam," so it's surprising just how little The Vaselines' music sounds like their Seattle admirers. Instead, The Vaselines were (and still are--their last album came out in 2010) amateurish and naughty--both in the best senses of the word--and always tuneful.
