So Entertainment Weekly has posted its list of the 100 Greatest Albums Ever, which strikes me as a kind of silly exercise. Certainly, many of the comments on Stereogum are brutal. People are particularly worked up by Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy:
a) appearing at all
b) appearing at #8
c) appearing just ahead of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds
I'm not going to weigh in on that.
One thing that's disappointing about these lists (especially when produced by mainstream outlets such as EW) is their predictability. You know that the Beatles' Revolver, the Rolling Stones' Exiles... and Michael Jackson's Thriller will appear--it's only a question of where. Then again, predictable choices are sometimes the best. I'd bet that most critics polled would say Dig Me Out is Sleater Kinney's best album, and they would not be wrong.
