Top 10 lists are pretty much ubiquitous on music blogs, and I always find them entertaining, in part because they produce such passionate feelings among readers. Case in point: a list that Stereogum put up last week called Wilco's 10 Best Songs, which produced 138 often furious comments, including several readers vowing to never come to the website again because they didn't include "I'm Trying To Break Your Heart." That's all a bit silly in my opinion. It's Stereogum's list, not gospel and the Web offers many avenues to publish your own list if it means that much to you. Anyhow, one song that didn't make the top 10 with Stereogum, but which would top my own is "A Shot In The Arm" off of 1999's Summerteeth, if only because it starts with the amazing line, "The ashtray says you were up all night."
